  iSibonelo High School Computer Centre

Bosasa has become legendary in its operational success as a knowledge management system’s organisation.  Its conscious and progressive strategy of becoming the leading purveyor of high technology  growth facilities has demonstrated worthy application in  local communities.  Bosasa has therefore launched its one of its national computer centres, in KwaMashu, KwaZulu Natal. While the computer centre - which is fully equipped with state of the art computer ware - is sited at Isibonelo High School, it will also serve the local community on a broader level.            Isibonelo boasts a history of producing many of South Africa’s greatest leaders.  Govan Mbeki, ANC stalwart and father of the former state president, Thabo Mbeki, was the principal of the school when it was still sited in the inner city of Durban.  This was  before the historical relocation of non-whites from white areas.

The previous administration’s Deputy President, Baleka Mbete is said to be one of the prominent alumni of the school. She goes on record as taking the lead in the launch of the computer centre at Fezeka High School in NY2 Gugulethu, Western Cape.  Both Isibonelo and Fezeka have been the recipients of fifteen computers with the purpose of developing essential computer skills for both  students and the neighbouring community.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Jeff Radebe and the recently appointed National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele made their presence felt at Isibonelo, as it is from this school that they both graduated. Radebe grew up in the immediate neighbourhood of the school. The ambassadors to Angola and Russia respectively are therefore among the esteemed alumni. Isibonelo’s  golden anniversary, celebrated fifty years  of tenacity, resilience and struggle for quality education as well as a better life according to the Head of Custer (of five districts in the region).

Group Communications Executive, Papa Leshabane explained Bosasa’s presence in Isibonelo: “We want the community of KwaMashu to be able to come to Isibonelo to learn about new age computer skills.”  Paying tribute to the CEO and Board of Bosasa for the vision, he also thanked the community of KwaMashu for planting the seed while urging them to protect their school’s prized possessions from criminal intent in the area.
