Heavenly Promise

Heavenly Promise is a non-profit organization that is currently situated in Vanrhynsdorp.  It aims to keep children and youth off the streets of Vredendal and Vanrhynsdorp by providing them with relevant developmental programmes. These programmes focus on recreation, aftercare and assistance with homework in the afternoons. 

Most of the youth have experienced difficult home circumstances and poverty which are both prevalent social problem in the area. Bosasa has been involved with this project since 2005 and after evaluating the socio dynamics behind sustaining an education mind set, it has assisted with a “Back-to-school” kit.  The kit is formulated to ensure that the youth stay in school without considering dropping out as an option because lack of school stationery acts as an obstacle. The kit consists of stationary and essential toiletries.  

Bosasa has donated a computer to the facility for their administration and a staff member’s salary is donated on a monthly basis. The overall appearance of the facility was also a concern because of its impact on morale and well being. Bosasa assisted with the painting of the facility as well as the provision of beds and bedding.   This serves as a support mechanism, providing a place for young people to sleep when they do not go home or when they remain at the facility for the afternoon. Alcohol and drug abuse is common in the area and staff members from Heavenly Promise have also been included in substance abuse training provided to Clanwilliam staff.
