Long standing chairman Gibson Njenje, joins the Bosasa Group bringing twenty years of top level executive experience with him.
Njenje’s experience with leading branded and listed companies leads him to confidently predict the ease with which Bosasa can assume a global marketing position. With less focus on geography and more on competitive product, Njenje has paradoxically identified Bosasa’s main competitors as ‘overseas and not local’.
Accustomed to working in tough commodity markets in troubled economic times, he has demonstrated navigational expertise. He has earned a reputation for developing task teams to drive improved operational performance, restructuring, and cost containment without compromising quality of delivery. He has also helped to draft key legislation in South Africa after exposure to leading legal thinking and decision makers in democratic countries.
For a decade Njenje has forged strategic alliances with multinationals, governments, institutions, reputable companies and their leaders. Njenje aims to drive well deserved public recognition for the benchmark achievements of the Bosasa Group. He sees his stewardship role as sustaining the existing steady growth pattern with focus on core business while developing a significant resource base. Historically he has helped companies to convert small secured but isolated contracts into sustainable long term business partnerships.
Njenje’s executive involvement with listed companies, include JCI, DRD, Western Areas and the Diamond Board (a regulatory body working with the Minister of Minerals and Energy) having also served government at executive level.
Njenje’s ability to build effective executive teams and drive core business has led to him to consistently being a natural choice as ‘chairman of the board’. Njenje’s breadth and depth of knowledge in a variety of industries can be attributed to his inclusive philosophy of good governance and his structured approach to all decision making. Always undertaking a comprehensive induction process was standard procedure to understand the company, its product and culture, which earned him the respect of personnel at all, levels. This meant following a product trail from conception/innovation to manufacture, end users and beneficiation processes throughout global markets which has given him rare insight into local and foreign trading processes.
A staunch South African, his vision is to position Bosasa’s operational expertise and integrated knowledge management processes and products in appropriate global markets.
He pursues a philosophy of dialogue towards meaningful goals rather than hardnosed negotiation and believes in building partnerships with organizations with added value.
Njenje attributes his formidable knowledge to his educationist father’s insistence on broad and eclectic reading. His practical experience follows his policy of hands on application and his social consciousness was spawned by the dire needs of his community in the Eastern Cape.
Njenje was part of the freedom struggle and lived in exile from the age of nine. As a vulnerable youth he was exposed to the atrocities of the Angola/South African border war. He began his formal tertiary studies in exile in Russia at the age of seventeen and learned to speak fluent colloquial Russian in a record three months. He has global cross cultural experience.
