With computer skills taking centre stage as an employability factor, the Bosasa board has identified this as a corporate social responsibility avenue with meaning on the South African stage. Current employment statistics suggest that basic computer skills need to be acquired not later than the secondary school years.  These skills can also be used effectively for application at tertiary education level.  Following a request from Baleka Mbete, Bosasa has adopted the Fezeka Secondary school in NY2 Gugulethu, Cape Town. Sondolo IT, part of the Bosasa Group, will be the main role player with this project. Sondolo IT, which has an extraordinary track record in identifying  latent talent in the technology field and developing this talent to leadership level, will be actively involved in this project.  Many of Sondolo IT’s personnel have been drawn from previously disadvantaged communities. They have gone on to operate in advanced technology fields with great success.

Fezeka fitted both the profile of Sondolo IT’s upliftment vision and government’s strategic plan for organisations to support local communities.  Sondolo IT has made an investment of R60 000 and it will also provide essential maintenance of the computers for the next year.  Although the focus is currently on the student population, Sondolo IT is encouraging a broader school strategy in which local communities can access the computer centre.
