The Bosasa Group also provides highly trained, respected and reputable professionals in the applied fields of dietetics and nutrition. As with all our endeavours, Bosasa’s dietetics and nutrition staff pride themselves on the highest standard of service.
With extensive experience in hospitals, community nutrition and correctional services we have received public acclaim for our interesting and palatable meals. Relying on the World Health Organisations’ predictive statistics, we anticipate nutritional needs with effective accredited training.
This division of our Group is highly successful in corporate social responsibility, as we have aligned our services to the Correctional Services white paper. Inmates are trained to become competent cooks and chefs and on being paroled become highly sought after in the hospitality industry. Changes of attitudes, the acquisition of meaningful social values and growth in self esteem are by-products of our training. Our training includes nutrition, how to cater for multiple disorders and special diets. Our specialised personnel have been called “food psychologists”. This term came about because of their effective influence on inmates to adopt sound, consistent dietary habits. All our dieticians are HPCSA registered.
The specific contract with The Department of Correctional Services has unique requirements that constitute the use of 7 full-time HACCP accredited dieticians, as well as 10 qualified assessors. This has led to improved food variety and quality dietetic management. Specialized menus have been designed to cater for the widespread dietary requirements of offenders. These include Normal, Underweight, Diabetic, Fat / Cholesterol limited, Protein limited, Meat / Fish free, Egg & chicken free, High-fibre, roughage, pork-free and maize free menus. Religious diets include the ZCC, Muslim, Shembe, Rastafarians, Hindus, Jews and Sabbath menus.
